Video: Carefree Summer Vacation With Kids

As a family travel writer, the question I get asked most often is: what is the best vacation you've taken with kids? We're fortunate to have traveled extensively, visiting many wonderful places and reviewing many hotels, resorts and other destinations, from awesome cruises and fun dude ranches to rustic retreats and luxe resorts. Yet since we're frequently on the move, we seldom return to the same resort twice—with one amazing exception.

Does your family have a happy place—somewhere you keep returning, and the mere thought of it fills you with a ridiculous sense of joy? My family's happy place is the Tyler Place in Vermont. My kids look forward to our trip all year, and I just love how carefree we all are when we're there. It's 100% relaxing, like childhood summers should be. When my kids are grown, I know they'll look back on our vacations here and remember so many wonderful memories. And that makes me feel just so incredibly lucky and blessed.
